The Millennium Biltmore Hotel is a luxury hotel located in downtown Los Angeles , CA . Its grand opening in 1923 while the landmark Millennium Biltmore Hotel has become an LA icon and Historic - Cultural Monument thanks to its 90 years history , stunning architecture and famous guests . The Los Angeles Biltmore ( the crystal Ballroom ) is known  for being an early home to the Academy Award  ceremony for the Oscars . ( 1931 , 1935 - 39 , and 1941 - 42 )

The Biltmore Theater was at the corner from 1924 - 1967 where then ran plays starring such as Katharine Hepburn , Henry Fonda and .... until 1967 . The 1960 , John F . Kennedy gave his speech at the Biltmore Hotel as the party's presidential nominee . Scenes from many movies and TV shows have been filmed at the hotel .
